In 1995 the Women of the Year Awards for the music industry & related media was created to redress the balance after the music industry's Man of the Year Award dinner had celebrated its third year, and to raise additional funds for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and the BRIT Trust.   The Man of the Year Award subsequently changed its name to The Music Industry Trusts' Award (The MITs) and in 2007 for the first time recognised the achievements of a woman, Kylie Minogue.

So it now seems apt that WOTYA, having enjoyed its 13th year in 2007, draws to a close.  During its time WOTYA has raised over half a million pounds for the two charities.  Thank you to all of you who have supported the event and recognised their importance - and got the message.
