In 1995 the Women of the Year Awards for the music industry & related media was created to redress the balance after the music industry's Man
of the Year Award dinner had celebrated its third year, and to raise additional funds for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and the BRIT Trust. The Man
of the Year Award subsequently changed its name to The Music Industry Trusts' Award (The MITs) and last year for the first time
recognised the achievements of a woman, Kylie Minogue.
It now seems apt that WOTYA, having enjoyed its 13th year in 2007, draws to a close and moves over for a new event, The Outstanding Contribution
Awards for the music industry & related media. The OCAs will celebrate the careers of both women and men, but keeping with the WOTYA philosophy
to acknowledge those behind the scenes and not artists. A new committee will be formed to produce this event and it will continue to be in
aid of NRMT and the BRIT Trust.
During its time WOTYA has raised over half a million pounds for the two charities. Thank you to all of you who have supported the event and
recognised their importance - and got the message. NRMT and the BRIT Trust look forward to seeing you at the OCAs - more details to be
announced soon, but keep the evening of 12th November free!
